Katie Hendricks
1923 - 2017
Saturday, May 6, 2017, we said a tearful goodbye to our grandmother, Katie Hendricks. Katie passed away peacefully in her sleep at Fairmont Extendicare in Lethbridge, where she’d been a resident for the past year. She follows after her son Donald, and her husband Cornie, who were waiting to greet her at the gates of heaven. Others she looked forward to seeing again were her brothers, sister and her beloved parents, as well as the many friends and loved ones who made her long life a rich and blessed one, and who left this world before her.
Katie Neufeld moved to Canada from Russia with her family at the age of two, and eventually married and settled in the Purple Springs area with her husband, Cornelius Hendricks. She was a hard working farm wife who enjoyed cooking, sewing and all manner of crafts. Katie also enjoyed spending time with the grandchildren who adored her, Jim and Deb Hendricks, the children of her late son Don. Time brought to her another granddaughter in Jim’s wife Lori, who brightened Katie’s life beyond words, and a beautiful great granddaughter Mason, the light of Katie’s life.
After Cornie’s death in 1993, Katie moved to Lethbridge, where she remained until her passing at 94 years of age. She lived her life in constant devotion to God, and was sustained through difficult times by her indomitable faith. “For this God is our God forever and ever; He will be our Guide, even to the end.” Psalm 48:14 Katie will be missed.
A burial service was held at the Taber Memorial Garden, one kilometer north of 64 Avenue on 50 Street, Taber on Saturday, May 13, 2017 at 3:00 P.M.
If friends so desire, those who wish to pay their respects are asked to make memorial tributes in Katie’s name directly to the charity of their choice.
