Les Darroch
1944 - 2017
John Lester Darroch, beloved father and friend, passed away with family by his side, in Taber on Tuesday, January 17, 2017 at the age of 72 years.
The Celebration of Les’ Life was held at the Parkside Manor, 4830 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, January 21, 2017 at 11:00 A.M.
Les was born in Westville, Nova Scotia on March 12 1944 to Irene and Andrew Darroch. He was a part of a family of fourteen children.
His passions led him to become a long haul truck driver and his love for driving truck took him all over North America. It was during one of his adventures that he met his love, Susan Sran. They became immediate lifelong friends and shared many experiences together both good and bad. After the loss of their beloved Trixie, Les traveled the country to bring home their cherished furbabies Ginger, Peanut, Jasmin and Molly. In 2015, Les became a celebrity when he landed a role on the television series Fargo where he proudly drove his 1971 Mercury Marquis Brougham and rubbed shoulders with the likes of Ted Danson and Kirsten Dunst.
When his health forced him to remain close to home, his love of driving and inspiring ability to keep doing the things that he loved, he started his cab company, AAA Taxi in Taber.
His grandbabies were his pride and joy. He spoiled them regularly and they adored their Grampa so. He also enjoyed participating in local car shows, turning paper clips into Classic cars, hosting BBQs and dinners, watching ball games, fishing and visiting over a fresh cup of coffee.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Les’ name may be made directly to the Canadian Cancer Society, 200, 325 Manning Road NE, Calgary, Alberta T2E 2P5 www.cancer.ca.
A special thank you to the Palliative Care Team and all the other health care workers who cared for Les and his family with compassion and professionalism during his long battles.
