Faye Shaw

1938 - 2016

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Faye Hildegard Shaw, at the Good Samaritans Linden View, Taber on Sunday, June 26, 2016 at the age of 78 years.

 Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday, July 4, 2016 between 9:00 A.M. and 9:40 A.M. 

The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Monday, July 4, 2016 at 10:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Magrath Cemetery at 1:30 P.M. 

 Faye is survived by her eight children June Hughes of Taber, Robert (Sonya) Shaw of Happy Valley, Washington, David (Michelle) Shaw of Edmonton, Wendy Shaw of Taber, T. Bruce (Ursula) Shaw of Edmonton, Michelle (Murray) McGinn of Prelate, Saskatchewan, Micheal (Heather) Shaw of Edmonton and Nicole Shaw of Abbotsford, British Columbia; twenty four grandchildren and nine great grandchildren. She is also survived by her sisters Kaye (Vern) Seeley and Reva Cole; brothers-in-law Gene Orr and Ray Van Steinburg; sisters-in-law Betty Derricott and Rena Derricott. 

 She was predeceased by her husband Melvin Whidden Shaw; half sister Effie Butler; sisters Lei Orr and Mae Van Steinburg; brothers Roy, Lester Robert, Earl, John and Elmer Derricott; brother-in-law Larry Cole; step brother-in-law Asael Butler; sister-in-law Leona Derricott and granddaughter Janelle Hughes.

  Faye came from a large family with five brothers and four sisters.  She was born June 7, 1938 in Lethbridge. Faye met her sweetheart at a church dance in Calgary and was married in the Orton Chapel on September 21, 1954. She is the eternal optimist who firmly believes in the power of prayer. Her first question to any of us when we faced challenges was “Have you prayed about it?” Faye believed if we had faith, God would answer our prayers. She had the soul of a nomad and took our family all over Alberta (north, south and central), to British Columbia and back to Alberta again. Faye loved to do crafts, sew, garden, quilt and make Christmas decorations. In fact her favorite time of year was Christmas which started in November, early November. Faye was fascinated with alternative medicine and was dabbling in it long before it became popular. One of her other passions was different ethnic cuisines. We were definitely not a run of the mill meat and potatoes kind of family. We explored cuisine from other ethnicities on a regular basis. To our family normal is boring. Faye had an open, friendly personality, a beautiful smile, an engaging laugh and a kind hearted soul. She will be much missed by the people who knew and loved her.
