Anne was born in Mapleleaf in the Crowsnest Pass, where she lived until she was twelve years old. She then moved with her parents to Shaughnessy to live on the farm. Anne went to school in Nobleford where she met her husband and soulmate Jack Hayden. They just celebrated their sixty fourth wedding anniversary.
Her family was her most important love, whether it was holidays, reunions or birthdays, being together meant the world to her. She loved having them visit, but just don’t wrestle in the living room, her all time rule! Anne was always there for all the kids, whether watching hockey, going to grads, weddings or any major achievements, you could count on Nanny.
She was strong and organized, always planning or participating in any functions, whether it was for the Vauxhall Royal Canadian Legion, Vauxhall TOPS, Vauxhall Seniors or Minor Hockey at any level, she was at the front of the line. Planning military wist tournaments was her passion in later years. She held many positions, such as president, secretary, treasurer and even league statistician in any or all of the above.
Anne found her twenty one years as school secretary at St. Mary’s School, very dear to her heart. To this day, many former students will stop for a chat or tell stories of their experience with Mrs. Hayden.
She also enjoyed her crafts, ceramics, crotcheting and best of all cross stitching. Each grandchild was presented with a special one of a kind cross stitched wedding announcement. These will certainly be cherished forever.
Anne was so proud of her induction into the Alberta Hockey Hall of Fame, received for all her hard work and dedication to the sport of hockey, both locally and provincially. Many hours were spent at a hockey rink around the province, especially watching her own children, grandchildren and even great grandchildren as of late.
Many summer weekends were spent enjoying family and friends at their lot at the Cowley Boat Club. How she loved people stopping for a visit. Camping was truly another passion of hers.
Even though her passing was sudden, she was surrounded by many family, the room was full, we know she would have loved that. She will always be with us, so many memories. We will miss you Nanny. Love forever.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Anne’s name may be made directly to the Vauxhall Seniors, P.O. Box 751, Vauxhall, Alberta T0K 2K0.
