Alvin Martin

1946 - 2016

It is with saddened hearts we announce the passing of Alvin Lee Martin, beloved husband of Susanne Martin, who passed away in Calgary on Friday, February 5, 2016 at the age of 69 years.

Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family to celebrate Alvin’s life at the Heritage Inn, 4830 - 46 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, February 21, 2016 between 2:00 P.M. and 4:00 P.M.

Besides his loving wife Susanne, he is lovingly remembered by their children Kerry (Roger) Rusnell of Cranbrook and their daughter Jenna; Lisa Martin (Trent Perry) of Lethbridge; Crystle Martin of Lethbridge and her son Riley. He is also survived by his mother Violet Charlton of Taber; his brother Bryce (Laura) Martin of Taber and their children Brad (Deanna) Martin and Jennifer (Jody) Archer; his sister Marion (Larry) Valgardson of Taber and their children Scott (Brianne) Valgardson, Leeann (Doug) Virovec, Jamie (Nathan) Johnson, Joey (Jamie) Valgardson, Theresa (Randal) Miller and Erin (Scott) Bissett; his sister Brenda Pyrch of Taber and her children Nick Pyrch, Kristan (Dave) Adkins, Jessica Pyrch, Melissa Pyrch and numerous great nieces and nephews. He will also be lovingly remembered by his cousins whom he loved to visit with. He will also be remembered by his father-in-law Bent Madsen of West Vancouver and mother-in-law Elena Lau of Vancouver; sisters-in-law Kris Frezell of North Vancouver and Lena Madsen of Vancouver; brothers-in-law Peter Madsen of Vancouver, Claus Madsen and Steve Madsen of Lethbridge, Norman Madsen of Toronto and numerous nieces and nephews.

He was predeceased by his father Allen Martin and his stepfather Harry Charlton; brothers James Martin and Ray Martin; grandparents Joseph and Mary Makinson and Robert and Sarah Martin.

Al was born in Taber on November 3, 1946 and was raised on the farm in Barnwell. He moved to Taber in his teen years. Al worked for Fortis Alberta as a Fleet Service Coordinator and retired in 2014. He enjoyed camping, fishing and golfing. Al enjoyed listening to country music, watching sporting events and trips to Las Vegas for drag racing. He liked wine making, gardening and having the best lawn. In his retirement, he also went back to playing pool.
