Dirk de Graaf
1953 - 2015
It is with heavy hearts that Dirk de Graaf’s family announces his sudden passing at his home in Vauxhall on Tuesday, November 10, 2015.
A celebration of Dirk's life was held at the Vauxhall Legion, 217 - 5 Street North, Vauxhall on Saturday, November 21, 2015 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Ken Easterbrook officiating. A private burial service was held prior to the funeral service.
Dirk was the beloved companion to Phyllis Hirney for many years, and will be missed by her son Kelly, daughter Tammy and Phyllis’s grandchildren. He was the beloved son of Pieter and the late Teresa de Graaf. Dirk will be lovingly remembered by his brothers Sid, John and Ivan; his sisters Hennie, Jetty, Janet, Pearl and numerous nephews, nieces, aunts, uncles, cousins and many friends.
Dirk was predeceased by his four grandparents, recently by his mother Teresa de Graaf of Lethbridge, his missing sister Donna Cupido in 2004, as well as numerous uncles, aunts and a cousin Sid Vander Ploeg of Vauxhall.
Dirk was raised along with his eight siblings in Vauxhall. Growing up he enjoyed playing hockey, baseball, and basketball. He served in the Canadian Armed Forces for seven years as a Medical Assistant and was also trained for Aeromedical Evacuation. Dirk later returned to Vauxhall, working at Miller Excavating for a time and more recently was successfully self-employed in the Oil & Gas Industry for the last fifteen years. He thoroughly enjoyed small town life and became an active member of the Vauxhall Royal Canadian Legion, serving faithfully on the Executive Committee for many years.
In his spare time Dirk was an avid reader, loved travelling with Phyllis to warm destinations, and recently golfed one hundred and twenty eight rounds with friends at various courses.
