Tom Battjes
1931 - 2015
Tammo Battjes went to be with his Lord in Taber on Wednesday, July 22, 2015 at the age of 83 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Sunday, July 26, 2015 between 2:00 P.M. and 3:00 P.M.
The Burial Service was held at the Granum Christian Reformed Church Cemetery (one mile south of the junction of Highway 519 and Range Road 254) on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 10:30 A.M.
The Funeral Service was held at the First Christian Reformed Church, 3902 Heritage Drive, Taber on Monday, July 27, 2015 at 2:00 P.M.
Tom was predeceased by his wife Janske and is survived by his children Jasper Battjes of Lethbridge, Jeanette (Grant) Duerloo of Granum and their children, Christopher and Benjamin.
Tom was born on September 29, 1931 in Groningen, The Netherlands to Jan and Jantie (nee Vink) Battjes. Life was tough for his generation under the German occupation, but after the war he immigrated to Canada. He met Janske Timmer while traveling on a Greyhound bus and were married May 16, 1964 settling in the Kitchener Waterloo region. The family moved to the Crowsnest Pass in 1977.
