GERRY ALBERT

1917 - 2015

Germaine Celina Albert (nee Ferdais) of Fort Macleod, formerly of Taber, passed away on Wednesday, March 11, 2015 at the age of 97 years.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, April 11, 2015 at 10:00 A.M. Burial followed at the Union Cemetery, Fort Macleod at 12:30 P.M.
Gerry is survived by her brothers Wilfrid (Susan) Ferdais of High River, Joseph Ferdais of Elnora as well as numerous nieces, nephews and cousins. Although Gerry never had any children of her own, she sponsored numerous foster children in poverty stricken countries for over fifty years.
She was predeceased by her parents Joseph and Emma Ferdais; five sisters and brothers-in-law Theresa (Jim) Bell, Marion (Gary) Barten, Agnes (Bob) Rose, Alphonsine “Al” (Hugh) Mackintosh and Rose (Bill Currie/John Alsgard); brothers Eugene and Armand Ferdais.
Gerry was born at home on the Joseph and Emma Ferdais farm, south of Fort Macleod in December 1917. She was educated in the Waterton District School and later at the Macleod School. As a young adult she did domestic work on several farms in the Fort Macleod and Granum areas; followed by three enjoyable years serving food to young airforce trainees at the Macleod air training base canteen during WWII. She later lived in Pincher Creek and worked many years in the food services industry. In the mid ‘50’s, Gerry went to Fort Vermilion in northern Alberta where she took out a farm homestead. In the late 1950's she trained and became a "nursing aide" (LPN). She worked her entire nursing career at the Taber General Hospital, mainly in the maternity ward. After her retirement she spent much of her time travelling to many places she had always wanted to see. Gerry was an active member of the CWL for fifty years.
