Johanna was born June 26, 1929 to Andrew and Susannah Hagel in Lancer, Saskatchewan. After high school, she studied at the Convent of Sion in Moose Jaw, Saskatchewan, to become a teacher and moved to Taber to teach school. She met Ken McDonald and fell in love. They married soon after and had eight children, Patti, Jim, Suzanne, Janette, Keith, Paul, Gordon and Kathy.
Jo was a devoted wife, mother and grandmother. She loved to spend time with family and friends and she instilled the importance of family to her children. She was also devoted to the church and served it faithfully, most notably with the Catholic Women's League and as an organist for St. Augustine’s parish for more than sixty years.
Jo will be remembered for her strong will and soft heart. Her beautiful and gorgeous smile will be missed dearly. Her family takes reassurance knowing that she is reunited with the love of her life and husband, Ken.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Johanna’s name may be made directly to the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Box 2211, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 4K7 (www.heartandstroke.ab.ca).
