DOROTHY WINBERG
1921 - 2014
“In the depth of winter - within me there lay an invincible summer”
Albert Camus
Dorothy Winberg, beloved wife of the late Harry Winberg, passed away peacefully in Taber on Friday, May 23, 2014 at the age of 92 years. She had a long struggle with dementia which robbed her of much, but never her gentle soul.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Theodore's Anglican Church, 5120 - 44 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, May 28, 2014 at 11:00 A.M with Reverend Erin Phillips officiating. Burial followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Dorothy is survived by her three children, son Blake Holtman of Taber and his three children Jay (Lucy) Holtman (family Mindy, Fraser and Mateo), Janene (Troy) Moch (family Brooklyn and Brett) and Andrea (Trevor) Stroeve-Sawa (family Taylor, Treven and Tanae); son Jerry (Sharon) Holtman of Taber and their two children Holly Holtman (Doug Gruner) (their family Quinn, Skyler and Nicolas) and Scott Holtman; daughter Patricia Davies of Lethbridge and her three children Merran (Dan) Tellier (daughter Ashley), Kristin Davies and Sarah Davies (son Parker).
Dorothy is also survived by Harry’s two daughters, Karen (Ron) Gurba of Winnipeg (their two children Brent (Colleen) Gurba and Kristin McDonald) and Myrna (Marvin) Guenter of Calgary (their two children Jason and Todd); Harry’s brother Howard (Edi) Winberg of Vauxhall and sister Peggy (Jack) Slowoniuk of Seattle, Washington and their families.
Dorothy was predeceased by her first husband Billy Holtman and her second husband Harry Winberg; parents Albert and Wilhemina Green; brother Leonard Green and sister Margaret Green.
Dorothy was the second child born to Albert and Wilhemina Green of Taber. She was born in the family home on September 5, 1921. Her childhood was surrounded by ranch life with sheep and cattle and lots of room to roam the range. This was the first education she received. Her education continued at the old Central School in Taber and she furthered her education at a girl’s boarding school in Calgary.
A lifetime Anglican, Dorothy supported her church wherever she lived. She lived her life with humour, dignity, wisdom, style, emotion and love. Her spirit is finally free and we will remember her as she once was, happy, loving and her camera in hand at all of her grandchildren’s activities.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Dorothy’s name may be made directly to St. Theodore’s Anglican Church, 5120 - 44 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1A9.
The family would like to express their gratitude to Dr. Wedel and the many caregivers at Linden View.
