EGBERTHA JONKER-VAN RIJN

Egbertha Jonker-Van Rijn, passed away peacefully in Taber on Tuesday, April 8, 2014 at the age of 101 years.
Her often expressed words “why doesn’t the Lord take me home”, have been fulfilled and she is now rejoicing in heaven. “Blessed is the man who perseveres under temptation, because when he has stood the test, he will receive the crown of life that God has promised to those who love Him”. James 1:12
A private burial service was held at the Taber Memorial Garden prior to the funeral service.
The Funeral Service was held at the First Christian Reformed Church, 3902 Heritage Drive, Taber on Monday, April 14, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Brian Kuyper officiating.
Egbertha is survived by her three sons John (Martha) Jonker of Red Deer, Albert (Anne) Jonker of Purple Springs and Okko (Audrey) Jonker of Taber, daughter Sybrich (Cecil) Dam of Niagara Falls, eighteen grandchildren, fifty eight great grandchildren and thirteen great great grandchildren of whom she was very proud.
She was predeceased by her husband Roelf Jonker, three children Sybrich, Tonnis and Egbert, grandson Ron Jonker, great granddaughter Elsa Lodewijk, three brothers and three sisters.
Egbertha was born August 18, 1912 in Saaksum, Holland. She married Roelf Jonker on May 8, 1935. During the war they hid two Jews and six young men for three years on their farm, as well as supplying food to those in need. They immigrated to Canada in May of 1954 and made their home in Calgary, where again she was very involved through her church in caring for people who needed help. In 1962 they moved to Ontario where she lived until 1985, at which time she moved to Taber and has resided there until the time of her passing.
