JUDY CHRISTENSEN

1944 - 2013

Judith Evelyn Christensen, beloved wife of Ken Christensen, passed away in Taber on Sunday, October 13, 2013 at the age of 69 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, October 17, 2013 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at the Taber Civic Centre, 4720 - 50 Street, Taber on Friday, October 18, 2013 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Vincent TuanHa officiating. A private service followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Judy leaves behind her high school sweetheart Ken, her husband of fifty one years as well as her children Jodi (Dennis) Bura of Evansburg and their children Jacey (Robbie Maskell), Braden and Brett Bura; Lynn (Kathleen) Christensen of Kennewick, Washington State and their children Connor and Wyatt Christensen; Layne (Tanya) Christensen of Taber and their children Cayden (Travis Turcato) and Cortland Christensen. She is also survived by her brother Bill (Joan) Burge, sisters Donna Hall and Jean (Ken) Bullock and their families as well as numerous nieces, nephews and their families.
She was predeceased by her mother Ella Burge, mother-in-law Annabell Christensen, father-in-law Eugene Christensen, brother-in-law Nels Hall, nephew Curtis Bullock and great niece Kortney Burge.
Mom was actively involved in the sports community. She was a hockey and baseball mom, coach, ump, referee when required and an active athlete herself. There is no one who could hit, run and field a baseball like mom. She leaves a legacy in the baseball field. Dad said she wore out the suburban chasing kids all over the country for their sports.
Mom would spend her past time camping, fishing, scrapbooking and found a passion bringing the family together through genealogy.
Mom only intended to go to work as a part time seasonal employee at Frito Lay in 1985 and ended her career as a safety co-ordinator twenty five years later. She made many friends and was a real influence with everyone she met at work. Fellow employees would describe her as a passionate, committed and always a centre of influence. She left big shoes to fill at Frito Lay on her retirement.
When it came to family, mom was the one to bring us all together. She was the rock of our foundation to our immediate family and never hesitated to open her home to anyone in need. Judy made everyone who came through her door feel welcome.
At the last family gathering she sat in the background as she watched the family interact and said to everyone within ears reach, “Man I did a good job! I’ve raised these kids to raise great kids” with a chuckle.
Mom will be greatly missed by everyone she came in contact with but will live on in her legacy, her family.
