TERRY HIGGINS
1922 - 2013
Terence Higgins, beloved husband of the late Shirley Higgins, passed away in Taber unexpectedly after a brief illness on Wednesday, August 7, 2013 at the age of 90 years.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, August 13, 2013 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
A private burial service was held at the Vauxhall Cemetery on Wednesday, August 14, 2013 with Pastor Mel Wiebe officiating.
Terry is survived by his twin brother Lloyd (Doris) Higgins of Taber; three nieces Jean, Pat and Sheila; two stepdaughters Bonny (Mel) Wiebe and family of Lethbridge and Judy (Stewart) Davison and family of Cache Creek, British Columbia.
He was predeceased by his wife Shirley Higgins in 2010; parents Jack and Mildred Higgins; brother Louis (Martha) Higgins; sister Florette Montgomery; nephew Brian Higgins; adopted daughter Andrea Higgins and stepdaughter Bev Barbour.
Terry was born December 27, 1922 on the family farm in Retlaw where he spent seventy years farming and ranching on this land. In 2006, he was pleased to have Higgins Farms Ltd. be the first Retlaw recipient of the Alberta Century Farm & Ranch award for one hundred years on the original homestead.
During the war years, Terry served with the First Elementary Flying Training School in High River as grounds crew, where he taxied planes and performed maintenance.
Always sports minded, Terry curled for years with the Vauxhall teams. He was a fan of the New York Yankees, the Toronto Blue Jays and the Montreal Canadiens. He believed in the power of John Deere, the sturdiness of Hereford cattle and only drove Ford trucks.
Terry was a Mason for sixty four years and received his fifty year medal, honouring his dedication.
