He is also survived by Linda’s children Larissa (John) Woods of St. Albert, Lindzi (Tyler) Megyes of Coaldale, Lesley (Sam) DeVlieger of Taber, Layne (Chylene) Collett of Taber and he was Papa Dale to Rachel, Ryland, Taytum, Maguire, Caydence, Oakley, Kashtyn, Branson and Barrett; father-in-law Don Harding of Taber and numerous in-laws, nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother-in-law Pat Harding.
Dale was born in Medicine Hat on July 27, 1957 to Ray and Gertrude Nesting. After attending grade one in Medicine Hat he moved with his family to Edmonton in 1963. Over the next five years he participated in various community association sponsored activities such as hockey, bowling and Boy Scouts. In 1967 the family moved to Lethbridge where he continued to be involved in organized sports activities. His highest attainment was his membership on the Lethbridge Bantam Rep hockey team, which he played one tier above their age group in the Midget Spud League. In 1973 the family moved to Medicine Hat where Dale attended Medicine Hat High. During his high school years he played for the Medicine Hat High Mohawks football team.
After graduation Dale was hired by AGT in Lethbridge where he worked for a few years until being transferred to Pincher Creek. While working in Pincher Creek he lived on Castle Hill for many years. Dale lived in a cabin at the base of the hill until the cabins were moved to expand the complex. He was the best skier and achieved the one million vertical feet in one season. Dale eventually moved to Coaldale where he met and married Linda Harding-Collett, which was the best thing that happened to him in years. He continued to work on a contract basis with the telecommunications industry until the time of his passing.
Nester was very athletic and enjoyed all sports he played, he was an outdoor enthusiast and excelled at everything he did. In the summer he enjoyed fly fishing and guiding with Bob Lowe. Football was Dale’s passion, if he was watching television, he was watching football.
Dale was a great cook, he was always designated to cook the turkey for every holiday meal and nobody made gravy like he did.
He also took great pride in his yard and he always had the greenest grass on the block.
Dale was an amazing husband and his greatest love in life was his wife. He was always concerned about Linda and made sure she had a hot meal, enough rest and he helped out at the flower shop. He was an amazing mentor to his step children. Papa Dale had a special bond with his nine grandkids, whether it be cutting branches out of the large tree, having fires, digging in the garden or just giving advice about boys. Nester was a best friend to many and would do anything to lend a helping hand. He always had an opinion about everything, whether you wanted to hear it or not. We will all miss his life lessons and cherish the ones he gave us.
