ALAN GIROUX
1954 - 2012
Alan William Giroux passed away unexpectedly in Calgary on Wednesday, December 5, 2012 at the age of 58 years.
The Funeral Service was held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, December 11, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Sandra Riddell officiating.
Alan leaves behind his beloved wife of thirty one years, Laura Ross-Giroux of Taber and his daughter Carrie O’Brien of Calgary. He is also survived by his brother Larry Giroux of Calgary and several nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his mother and father, Mona and Art Giroux and older brother Jerry.
Alan was born and raised in Calgary. He worked most of his life in the oil patch in various locations around the world as an equipment manager and heavy-duty mechanic. After moving to Taber in 2002, he continued to work as a mechanic, and for the past eighteen months was employed by Prime Rentals in Lethbridge. When not working, he enjoyed several outdoor activities particularly camping, fishing, hunting and long Sunday drives exploring the back roads of southern Alberta. Other days, he enjoyed nothing more than reading his Kobo with his cat, George, on his lap. Although quiet by nature, many will miss Alan’s dry humour and hearty laugh, especially those he provided mentorship to over the years.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Alan’s name may be made directly to the the Heart and Stroke Foundation of Alberta, Box 2211, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 4K7 or the Town of Taber (please indicate for Taber Animal Shelter), A - 4900 - 50 Street, Taber, Alberta T1G 1T1.
