MARGARET DEBONA
1946 - 2006
Margaret Rose DeBona, beloved wife of John R. DeBona of Taber, passed away peacefully, surrounded by her family at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital after a courageous battle with Pulmonary Fibrosis, on Tuesday, May 9, 2006 at the age of 59 years.
Besides her loving husband John, Margaret is survived by her children Debi (Blake) Fletcher and their children Travis and Paige, Tracey (Malcolm) Howells and their children Colton and Kassidy, Rhonda DeBona, Denise (Paw) Pedersen and their children Jazlyn, Jett and Wyatt and Danny (Lisa) DeBona and their children Taia and Vinnie. Margaret was born on August 26,1946 in Taber to Andy and Elsie Astalos. Margaret married her childhood sweetheart John DeBona on September 18, 1963. John and Margaret resided east of Taber at Fincastle where they farmed and raised their five children. Margaret enjoyed her kids, farm life and farm pets. She had a heart for all animals, her favorites being the babies. She enjoyed farming along side John and for mom there was nothing better than a tractor, a thermos of hot coffee and one of the kids riding around with her.
Mom enjoyed many things in life, especially her family. Her grandchildren were what she treasured the most. She was a proud grandmother and loved her grandkids. They were the light of her life. She loved playing on the floor, coloring, making holiday cookies, cards and listening to their stories.
She enjoyed hockey, an interest that blossomed as a result of the support given to Danny while he played in his younger years. She loved gardening, cooking, traveling and needle point. No matter what time of day it was at mom’s house, coffee was always on with plenty of food on the table. As her family grew bigger with in-laws and grandchildren, Easter became her favorite holiday. She loved to decorate and bake cookies. If you knew mom she was a little spitfire wherever she went. Her daily routine included visiting her mom at the Clearview Lodge and playing Tile Rummy with the ladies.
Margaret is also survived by her in-laws Mary & Bill Rachwalski, Ralph & Marlene DeBona, Cheryl DeBona; her nieces and nephews Brad & Michel Edwards, Ryan, Samantha and Megan Astalos, Linda (Bill) Williams, Shelley (Mo) Just, Todd (Cathy) DeBona, Reg DeBona, Richelle (Rick) Gross, Bill DeBona, James Rachwalski and Donna (Chris) Rachwalski.
She was predeceased by her father Andy Astalos, her mother & father-in-law Ralph & Emma DeBona, her sisters Linda Astalos & Veronica Astalos, brother-in-law Rudy DeBona, her aunt Ester Vass and by her beloved grandmother Elsie Dorogdi.
John’s commitment through Margaret’s illness was only a chapter in the love and devotion they shared for forty five years.
It’s not good bye Mom, it’s till we meet again!
