BETH GIBB

1920 - 2000

Beth Arthusa Johnson Gibb, born May 2, 1920 in Barnwell, passed away at Provo, Utah in the early morning hours of October 2, 2000.
Having struggled with cancer and the effects of chemotherapy for many years, during her final weeks Beth met the end of her life with courage and strong faith, expressing the strong sentiment that she was “ready for her next mission and adventure”. Beth was a faithful and active member of The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints and held a variety of church jobs in which she served with diligence, sincerity and imagination. Beth’s final loving week was spent with her four children, several of her siblings and grandchildren. Beth will be sadly missed and forever remembered by her children LaRae (James) Mason of Provo, Utah, Glenda Lee (Robert) Severn of Littleton, Colorado, Ronald (Elizabeth) Gibb of Granada Hills, California and Richard Gibb of Fort Bragg, California; eight grandchildren and three great grandchildren; one brother and six sisters Zola Haws of Taber, Letha Lamb of Lethbridge, Dean Johnson of Kaysville, Utah, Julia Dalton of Aptos, California, Joyce Farnworth of Orem, Utah, Peggy Hiatt of Lethbridge and Rita Simmons of Bountiful, Utah; a sister-in-law Phyllis Johnson of Lethbridge and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her parents; husband Price; three brothers Gayle Johnson, Wayne Johnson and Byron Kay Johnson.
The second child of eleven and eldest daughter of Leith Ingram Johnson and Myrtle Theresa Jensen, Beth early in life developed a strong sense of responsibility and respect for family.
Beth married Price John Gibb in 1946 in the Cardston Alberta Temple. Nine years and three children later the family moved to Southern California where they made their home until Price’s death in 1991. In addition to fulfilling her responsibilities to her family, Beth held a variety of interesting and cutting-edge jobs. She was the first female radio engineer during World War II for the CBC. In California, Beth was involved in the early data processing technology and held several jobs over the years as a research assistant and office manager. In 1978 Beth received a Bachelors of Science Degree from California State University, Northridge in Journalism and Communications. Beth was working towards her Masters in Women’s Studies when her education was interrupted by the need to care for her husband who was suffering with Alzheimer’s Disease. Following Price’s death, Beth became a political advocate for the Alzheimer’s Foundation, lobbying in Washington, D.C. Beth’s compassionate heart will be missed by all who knew her.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the church prior to the service from 12:00 P.M. until 12:40 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church Of Jesus Christ Of Latter-day Saints, Barnwell Chapel, on Friday, October 6, 2000 at 1:00 P.M. with Bishop Marty Johnson officiating. Burial followed at the Barnwell Cemetery.
