YUKIO TOMIYAMA

1924 - 2012

Yukio Tomiyama, beloved husband of Aiko “Betty” Tomiyama of Taber, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Taber Hospital on Friday, August 3, 2012 at the age of 88 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, August 7, 2012 at 5:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, August 8, 2012 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Vincent TuanHa Celebrant. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Along with Betty his loving wife of fifty six years, Yukio will be remembered by their four children, son Blake (Carole) Tomiyama of Calgary and their children Stephanie and Melissa; son Larry (Lucy) Tomiyama of Calgary and their children Jessica and Jordan; son Chris (Heather) Tomiyama of Calgary and their son Jarod; daughter Ina Tomiyama of Calgary. Yukio will also be sadly missed by his sisters Sue Saruwatari of Calgary and Hiroye Fujimagari of Taber; brother Aki (Takaye) Tomiyama of Calgary; sister-in-law Shiz Tomiyama of Taber and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Kakuta and Kurino Tomiyama; two brothers Mitsuo Tomiyama, Yoshio Tomiyama and a sister Hisaye Ohashi; brothers-in-law Mick Saruwatari, Jack Fujimagari and Mike Ohashi.
Yukio was born in Vancouver, British Columbia on March 13, 1924. In 1942 his family was relocated to southern Alberta and settled in Taber. Along with his brother Yoshio, he owned and operated Tomi’s Auto Service in Barnwell. He took great pride in supporting local farmers as a licensed mechanic. While in Taber, Yukio served the Taber community as an executive member of the Elks Club from 1962-1973. From 1972-1973 he served as a District Deputy Grand Exulted Ruler.
