RICHARD THOMAS

1956 - 2012

Richard George Thomas, beloved husband of Gwen Thomas and dear son of Matt and Tillie Thomas, was welcomed home on Saturday, April 21, 2012 at the age of 55 years. He was surrounded by his family following a lengthy battle with cancer. Richard faced his battle with dignity, immense courage and strength of character.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, April 26, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Vincent TuanHa Celebrant. Graveside service to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Richard will be lovingly remembered by his wife Gwen Thomas; his parents Matt and Tillie Thomas of Taber; sisters Rosalind (Bryan) Kranzler of Lethbridge, Deborah (Ken) Sommerfelt of Winnipeg; sister-in-law Bernice Thomas of Calgary; nieces and nephews Bryce (Casey) Thomas and children of Calgary, Brent Thomas of Calgary, Krystal (Tim) Bochan and children of Lethbridge, Kevin Kranzler of Lethbridge, Michael Sommerfelt of Winnipeg, Jennifer (Chris) Norton and children of Winnipeg, Jacquelin Sommerfelt of Winnipeg and Sean (Erin) Sommerfelt and their son of Winnipeg. Richard will also be remembered by Gwen’s children Janna (Jason) Kunz and children of Taber, Carly Peterson of Calgary and Jared Peterson of Calgary.
Richard was predeceased by his elder brother Larry Thomas, Grandma and Grandpa Gross and by his ever faithful dachshund Tyson.
Richard was born in Taber on July 23, 1956 and raised in Grassy Lake and Taber. He gave a lifetime of his whole self thru his love and commitment to his family, commitment to his job, and dedication and love to his sports. He married the love of his life, Gwen, in the fall of 2010. Richard will be fondly remembered and sadly missed by his family and many friends.
