ALVIN BISSETT

1928 - 2012

Alvin Allison Bissett, born April 17, 1928 in Raymond, Alberta, passed away in Taber on Saturday, March 24, 2012 in the closing days of his 84th year.
Since people rarely speak ill of the dead, Alvin once said he would like to have his funeral before he died, so he could be there to hear all the nice things people were going to say about him. Although he died before that could be arranged, we’re certain he’ll still hear every kind word and feel every remarkable sentiment possessed about a man who every one, old and young alike, would call a dear friend.
Alvin had a magnificent sense of humor coupled with a deep unescapable wisdom. A happier man you couldn’t find. In the face of death, he still found humor in the situation. His love of family was only superseded by his love for his Heavenly Father. He had a deep conviction of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, as taught in The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served a mission for the church in Eastern Canada, where he met his wife to be, Margaret Orma Ditty.
Two years into their marriage, Alvin and Margaret settled in Taber, opening a tire shop, Bissett’s Tire Supply, next to the old LDS Church Canary, across from Jensen’s Welding, at the end of main street heading East. Alvin fixed a lot of tires over the years, never leaving anyone stranded, whether they could pay or not.
After struggling with the tire shop, Alvin packed a lunch and headed out to the oil patch, where he worked in nearly every facet of the oil field, including being a Tool Push and a Consulting Engineer.
Alvin and Margaret had four children, Ronald, Brenda, George and Bruce; And at last count, Alvin left behind twelve grandchildren and eleven and eight ninths great grandchildren. We’re certain he’s visiting the eight ninths of a grandchild now.
On behalf of Alvin, we are so very grateful for all your kind and generous friendships and support, over the years. This has been a grand town to live in. The very best of people. The very best of friends.
Alvin is survived by his children Ronald Bissett (Kim Strate) of Edmonton, Brenda Ibechi of Taber and George Bissett of Taber; grandchildren David (Jenni), Scott (Erin), Mark (Shauna), Stefanie (Blake), Danielle (Lee), Kelsey, Emily, Andrew, Aaron (Michelle), Nicole, Matthew (Ashley) and Nathan. He is also survived by his siblings Phyllis (Matt) Slovak, George (Vivian) Bissett and Audrey (Lorence) Kesler.
He was predeceased by his wife Margaret Bissett (nee Ditty); son Bruce Bissett.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family prior to the Funeral Service in the Relief Society Room at the church on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 between 1:00 P.M. and 1:40 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, March 28, 2012 at 2:00 P.M. with Bishop Wade Steed conducting. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
