VI COOMBS
1929 - 2011
Violet Coombs (nee Claeys), beloved wife of the late Dean Coombs of Taber and the late Raymond Skretting of Vauxhall, passed away in Taber with her daughter by her side on Wednesday, November 16, 2011 at the age of 82 years.
A private family burial will precede the service at the Vauxhall Cemetery.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Royal Canadian Legion, 217 - 5 Street North, Vauxhall on Monday, November 21, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Wes Midgett officiating.
Vi is survived by her son Roger (Nadine) Skretting of Vauxhall; daughter Cathy (Jerry) Doell of Taber; Dean’s children Dale (Lana) Coombs, Rod (Linda) Coombs, Wendy (Bud) Heidinger all of Taber and Cindy (Darrell) Schafer of Medicine Hat as well as numerous grandchildren and great grandchildren. She is also survived by her brother Joe (Polly) Claeys of Lethbridge; sisters Georgette Aitken of Surrey, British Columbia and Clara (Walt) Staples of Lethbridge; sister-in-law Joan Claeys of Kelowna, British Columbia; step sister Erna (Garvin) Hart of Calgary; step mother Martha Claeys of Calgary as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased by her first husband Raymond Skretting; second husband Dean Coombs; son Dennis Skretting; parents Jules and Marie Claeys; brother Lucien Claeys; daughter-in-law Shelly Coombs; brother-in-law Dave Aitken.
Vi was born at Rolling Green, Alberta (south of Retlaw) on May 27, 1929 the fourth child of Jules and Marie Claeys. She grew up and received her schooling in Vauxhall, where she met and married her high school sweetheart, Raymond Skretting. Together they farmed and raised their family until Raymond’s passing in 1967. In 1968 Vi moved her family to Taber. While working at Campbell Electric she met Dean Coombs. Vi and Dean married in 1977 and lived at Johnson’s Addition, Picture Butte and Pioneer Place in Taber until Dean’s passing in 2007. She will be fondly remembered for her many years employed with Oddie’s Drug Store. Vi’s last days were spent at Linden View in Taber. She will be remembered for her warm heart, great cooking, quick wit and her wonderful sense of humour.
