Every member of her family received her quiet praise in all of their accomplishments, no matter how large or small. She will be remembered for her sewing, gardening, uncountable meals both at home and “in the field”. Her quilts can be found all over Alberta and as far away as Australia. Herb and Merle traveled world wide, including a trip to Russia to attend the Canada verses Russia Summit Series in 1972. She was an honourary life member of the Prairie Rose Quilters Guild, Burdett Celebration Weavers, Burdett Women’s Institute. Merle was also a member of the Grassy Lake Eastern Star, Royal Purple No. 241 and was the Burdett United Church treasurer for more than twenty years.
She was instrumental in the creation of the Burdett History Book and spent many hours gathering the necessary information. Merle and Herb enjoyed a drive around the countryside to check the crops.
