DONALD CAMPBELL

1927 - 2005

Donald James Campbell, beloved husband of Carol Campbell of Burdett, passed away at the Bow Island Health Centre on Wednesday, December 7, 2005 at the age of 78 years.
Donald was born on May 20, 1927 at the farmhouse 1 1/2 miles south of Burdett. He was the youngest child of Roy and Mina Campbell. He attended school at Burdett and graduated from grade twelve in Bow Island in 1945. He married Carol Smith on August 29, 1953. They had two sons Warren & Murray. In the spring of 1952, the Taber St. John's Ambulance Society presented him with the National Safety Council Medal for saving the life of his nephew Bruce, by applying Artificial Respiration, after he had fallen into a ditch filled with ice cold run off water. In 1993, he was proud to receive the Governor General Silver Commemorative Medal for the 125th Anniversary of the Confederation of Canada, in recognition of community service. He spent his working years farming and was actively involved in irrigation and spent fifteen years serving on the boards with SMRID and A.I.P.A. In November 2000, he was presented with the Alberta Irrigation Projects Association Silver Irrigation Award in recognition of substantial contribution to irrigation.
Besides his loving wife Carol, Donald is survived by his son Warren (Theresa) and their children Kelli-Ann (Glen Nixdorf), Tara (Dale) Lindsay and Kendra; his son Murray, his children Ryan and Sacha, and their mother Wilma. He is also survived by his brother Wyman (Doris) Campbell, his sister-in-law Ruth Campbell and by Carol's sisters Joyce Arthur, Ivy Tunstall, Marlene Smith and her brother Conrad (Loreen) Smith as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Roy and Mina Campbell, his brothers Kenneth and Alvin; his sister Dorothy and brother-in-law Jack Morrison and his sister Esther and brother-in-law Earl McMahen.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Burdett United Church, Burdett on Saturday, December 10, 2005 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Sandra McMillan officiating. Interment of the urn at a later date, at the Burdett Community Cemetery.
