REX CHRISTENSEN

1927 - 2006

Rex Christensen, beloved husband of the late Anne (Klics) Christensen, of Taber, passed away at the Foothills Hospital in Calgary on Friday, January 6, 2006 at the age of 78 years.
Rex was born on November 25, 1927 at Stirling, Alberta. He was raised on the family farm in Wrentham where he also received his schooling. He married Anne Klics on June 30, 1955.
Rex was predeceased by his wife Anne and leaves to mourn his passing his eight children Bev (John) Kutanzi, Tim (Annie), Marie (Barry) McDermott, Terry, Bill (Laurie), Myrna (Brent) Brewin, Neil, Sherry (Scott) Lait; twelve grandchildren Ryan, Scott, Jennifer (Steve), Kimberly (Corey), Stacey (Jonny), Daniel, Sarah, Gabe, Devin, Janessa, Terry and Tia; five great grandchildren Shania, Amber, Emily Pedersen, Mckenna and Terex Evenson; a brother Marvin; three sisters Norma Selk, Barbara Adams, and Sylvia (Sheldon Rogers) and his faithful companions Tex, D.J. and Sammy. Rex was also predeceased by his parents Alfred James and Inzie (Barton) Christensen and seven brothers and two sisters.
Dad worked hard all his life. He started working at a very young age farming and ranching with his uncle Emran. He later worked with his father and brother on the family farm. During this time he also worked for the County of Warner operating heavy equipment building roads and grader work. After he married he began work for Alberta Coal and Mannix Corporation while still helping on the farm. He eventually began full time with Manalta Coal and the Mannix Family for 35 years. Dad operated all the equipment related to strip mining eventually becoming the mechanical superintendent and shop foreman.  Dad retired in 1988, leaving him more time to spend with his family, especially his grandchildren and working on his hobbies of woodworking. He loved to help his children work on their vehicles, always having a mechanical project on the driveway. Dad will be dearly missed by all of his children, grandchildren, great grandchildren and all who knew him.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, January 11, 2006 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and also at the church prior to the Funeral Service on Thursday, January 12, 2006 from 11:30 A.M. to 12:40 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue on Thursday, January 12, 2006 at 1:00 P.M. with Bishop Michael Saunders conducting. Interment to follow in the Taber Memorial Garden.
