BOB GALVIN

1922 - 2001

Robert “Bob” Francis Galvin, beloved husband of Norma Galvin of Taber, passed away peacefully, surrounded by his family at the Lethbridge Regional Hospital on Saturday, January 20, 2001 at the age of 78 years.
Besides Norma,his loving wife of fifty six years, he leaves to mourn his daughters Moyra (Dick) Martin of Calgary, Wanda Lloyd of Calgary, Kerri (Owen) Galvin-Smyth of Lethbridge; sons, Pat Galvin of Lethbridge and Mike Galvin of Taber; four grandsons, Jeffrey, Robert and Gregory Martin and Aaron Galvin; special daughter-in-law, Sue Nash; brother, Eugene Galvin; brother-in-law, Darrell (Carol) Trenholm and family; nieces Eileen McIntyre and Kathy Lynch. He was predeceased by his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Ray Galvin; two brothers, Leo and Bill Galvin; sister-in-law, Joan Galvin; son-in-law, Richard Lloyd; and grandson, Trevor Martin.
Bob was born in Bow Island on December 21, 1922. He grew up in the Burdett area and began his teaching career at the age of nineteen years. He received his Bachelor of Education in 1948 at the University of Alberta and his Masters of Education in 1966. His last twenty one years of teaching were spent at St. Mary’s School in Taber as principal and teacher. In 1984 he retired from teaching - forty two years spent in a profession he loved.
Bob was a long-time member of the Knights of Columbus Eugenio Pacelli Council No. 4743.
Bob was an ardent golfer and curler. He spent many hours enjoying good friendship, comraderie and spirited competition on the golf course and at the curling rink. He was instrumental in the relocation and development of the Taber Golf Course. Bob was awarded an Honorary Lifetime Membership for his many years of service as an executive member of the Taber Golf & Curling Club.
He will always be remembered as a man of integrity who loved learning and a good discussion, a man who loved to solve that challenging problem, a man who loved easy laughter, his home and his yard and most of all, a man who loved and treasured the times spent with family - camping, family singalongs, playing cards, debates held around the kitchen table, sharing a family meal, golf games, home improvement projects and special occasions.
Relatives and friends were invited for Prayers at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, January 23, 2001 at 7:30 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated At St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, January 24, 2001 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Jim de los Angeles Celebrant. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
