MICHAEL COLLETT
1961 - 2007
Brian Michael Collett, beloved husband of Kathy Collett of Taber, loving father to Tara, Tasha and Serena and dear son of Brian and Adele Collett, passed away suddenly as a result of an accident on Friday, November 30, 2007 at the age of 46 years.
Michael was born in Taber on June 12, 1961. As a boy he enrolled in Queen Scouts and traveled to P.E.I. for the World Scout Jamboree. He was an artist in his younger days, had the ability to write eloquently and had an appreciation of drama as he acted in the play “Charlie’s Aunt”. These three talents were passed down through his three girls. He was physically active and as a teenager he played tennis, belonged to a curling team and later would play racquetball where he made many friends. He also enjoyed playing cards, board games and later he liked to play strategic computer games. As a young teenager he was in an ESSO commercial that ran during Hockey Night in Canada.
He graduated Salutatorian from St. Mary’s High School in 1979. He then attended the University of Lethbridge where he earned a Bachelor of Management degree in 1983. He later went to the Lethbridge Community College where he took agriculture courses. Following this he purchased a half section of land and soon began farming with his dad in Collett Farms Company.
Michael enjoyed farming and would spend a lot of time taking care of the cattle or his “four legged girls”. As a young boy there was a saying “Michael being Michael”. He had a unique sense of humor and enjoyed the company of his family and friends. During a few slow winters he would work on his Genealogy and enjoyed listening to stories of the past at family reunions.
Michael married Kathy Pavka on November 4, 1989. He is survived by his loving wife Kathy; daughters Tara, Tasha and Serena; parents Brian and Adele; brother Chris (Helen); uncles Barney (Kathy) Kerkhoff, Terry (Barb) Kerkhoff and Dr. Dean (Carol) Collett; numerous cousins, mother-in-law Frances Pavka, brother-in-law Richard Pavka and his step grandmother Marg Kerkhoff.
He was predeceased by his grandparents Reuben and Myrtle Collett, Bernard and Pat Kerkhoff and his father-in-law John Pavka.
