GEORGE HUTCHINSON
1915 - 2002
George Alexander “Alex” Hutchinson, beloved husband of Magdaline “Mag” Hutchinson of Taber, peacefully passed away on Sunday, June 30, 2002 at the age of 86 years.
Alex was born on November 29, 1915 in Yorkshire, England, a son of Thomas and Mary Jane Hutchinson. At a young age he moved with his family to Canada. He took on many challenges working in various fields including being a street and railway worker, a dirt moving operator and a boiler engineer. Later in life he enrolled in an engineers course and received his ‘ticket’, which he was very proud of. He used his ‘ticket’ well and worked for many years as a steam engineer. In his leisure time Alex enjoyed travelling which took him on many trips ‘down south’ and went ‘up north’ to take fresh corn to his family. His family meant a lot to him and he was very proud of his children and grandchildren and all of their accomplishments. Alex spent much of his time in his younger years taking trips with his children and later in life enjoying hunting, fishing and camping with his grandkids and friends. He also enjoyed playing horseshoes, music, singing, dancing, movies, watching hockey, bowling and animals, especially dogs. He was particularly fond of his dog, Keno, and thought he was the smartest dog around. Alex was a member of the Moose and was a current member of the Royal Canadian Legion.
Besides his loving wife, Mag, Alex will be forever cherished by his children and grandchildren; his daughter, Linda (Paul) Gregus and their children Rick, Rhonda, Ryan and Kristy all of Taber; his son, Rod (Dianne) Hutchinson and their children Jennifer and Tyler all of Caroline, Alberta as well as numerous nieces and nephews. Alex was predeceased by his parents Thomas and Mary Jane Hutchinson; his sister, Nancy and brothers, Tom, Len, Charlie and Jack.
The Funeral Service was held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, July 3, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. with Mr. Doug Hutchinson officiating. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Alex’s name can be made directly to the Taber Hospital Foundation, 4326 - 50th Avenue Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9.
