MARTHA WOOLLEY
1910 - 2002
Martha Rose Woolley (nee Thomas) passed away peacefully, in her sleep, on April 12, 2002 at Taber Extended Care at the age of 92 years.
Martha was the beloved wife of the late Roy Anderson Woolley.
She was predeceased by her parents Pinkney Preston Thomas and Harriet Maria Carter Thomas; sisters Bessie, Elizabeth and Roberta and brothers Fielding and Glenn and their spouses; her father-in-law and mother-in-law Leo Carlos and Anne Matilda Woolley and Roy’s brothers and sisters.
Martha is survived by her children Rosamond (Harry) Jefferies, Thomas Woolley and Edwin (Wendy) Woolley; twelve grandchildren and nin great grandchildren Shannon Digisippi and her children Brandon, Cody and Natalina Rose; Kathy Armstrong and daughter Jessica and Joshua and Jonathan; Kelly (Jeff) Short and children Sabrina Rose and Mitchell; Andrew (Jacklin) Woolley; Camila Woolley (fiance Dennis Blanchette) ; Jim Woolley; Wayne Woolley; Richard Woolley (presently serving in the Samara Russia Mission); Jeffrey (Kristi) Woolley and son Nathan; Michael Woolley; Alyssa Rose Woolley and Tara Woolley. She is also survived by sisters-in-law Mary Woolley Bryner, Elva Woolley Sommerfelt, Zelda Woolley and Melba Woolley Germer and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Her childhood and youth were spent in Cardston and after she graduated from high school she attended Calgary Normal School.
The next thirty six years were spent in the classrooms of Southern Alberta. Teaching was such a joy in her life and so many young people benefited from her knowledge and expertise.
Martha was active in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints all her life. She held many positions in the auxiliary organizations of the church as a leader and teacher. Martha and Roy were called to serve in the Canada Winnipeg Mission from 1976 to 1978.
She loved her hobbies and to travel which included trips to The Holy Land, England, Denmark, Hawaii and all over the United States. She made her family her hobby. She loved teaching her daughter how to set a table with fine china and showing her boys how to iron. She had a passion for writing family histories and loved to tell the stories of her ancestors. Martha also loved to quilt and entertain.
Moma will surely be missed by all who knew her or learned from her.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Monday, April 15, 2002 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and also prior to the funeral service in the Relief Society Room of the Church from 9:45 A.M. to 10:45 A.M.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of
Latter-day Saints, 5314 - 54 Street, Taber on Tuesday, April 16, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Bruce Francis conducting. Interment followed at the Temple Hill Cemetery, Raymond, Alberta at 2:30 P.M.
