GEORGE RUMPEL

1919 - 1999

Surrounded by his family on Monday, May 10, 1999, George Rumpel formerly of Etzikom, beloved husband of Velma Rumpel, passed away peacefully at the Bow Island Health Centre at the age of 80 years.
George was born to Peter and Madeline Rumpel in Lethbridge on February 6, 1919. He was raised in the Etzikom area and attended school at the New Endon school near there. As a young man he enjoyed playing ball and made his living as a cowboy working on various ranches. He served his country overseas during World War two and married Velma Hockenhull on July 12, 1952 in Lacombe. They farmed for many years near Etzikom and eventually retired to the Town of Foremost in 1979. In his leisure, George enjoyed playing Bridge and was a member of the Foremost Royal Canadian Legion.
Besides his loving wife Velma, he leaves to cherish his memory four daughters Carolyn Luca and her family Devan and Brianne of Lethbridge; Wanda Rumpel (Larry Hug) and their daughters Chantelle, Chelsea and Crystle of Whitecourt; Joan (Larry) Smith and daughters Julie and Christie of Taber; Bev (Greg) Finstad and their children Brant and Krynn of Fairbanks, Alaska; one son Ray (Laura) Rumpel and their children Randi, Darbi and Jaryn of Foremost; two sisters Virginia (Darrel) Collins and Ruth Liverseed and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Peter and Madeline, sister Dorothy (Bill) Wilkinson and son-in-law Allan Luca.
The Funeral Service was held at the Foremost United Church, Foremost on Thursday, May 13, 1999 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Kelly Grittner officiating. A family interment followed in the Field of Honour at the Foremost Cemetery.
