1928 - 2002

Leo Carroll McCartee of Taber, beloved husband of Marlene McCartee, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, January 9, 2002 at the age of 73 years.
Besides his wife Marlene, he is survived by three daughters Linda (Greg) Pyne of Taber, Diane (Rick) Dongworth of Taber and Melanie (Bruce) Mabin of Creston, British Columbia. He will be dearly missed by his grandchildren, Brad (Andrea) Pyne of Taber, Jamie Pyne (Fiancé Kris Robin) of Lethbridge, Jodie (Mark) Van Beers of Taber, Sean Dongworth (Bobbi Jo Badura) of Taber, Devon Dongworth (Wade Feist) of Taber, Lacey Schalk of Lethbridge, Cody and Kelsey Schalk of Creston, British Columbia and their father Ron of Lethbridge; three great-grandchildren, Brittany and Hunter Pyne, Lexi Feist and an unborn baby due in five weeks. Leo is also survived by a sister-in-law Winogene (Paul) Luehr of Taber; three brothers-in-law, Glenn (Jeanette) Gilbertson of Lethbridge, Dale (Zelma) Gilbertson of Taber and Brent (Margaret) Gilbertson of Calgary.
He was predeceased by his son, Kelly in 1969; his father William George “Carl” McCartee in 1957; his mother Usona McCartee (nee Hall) in 1975 and a sister Connie in 1928.
Leo was born in Taber on February 17, 1928. He spent most of his early years living in the Taber C.P.R. depot where his father was station master. He also loved spending time at his maternal grandparents farm located northeast of town. As a young man he worked for his uncle Cecil at Johnsons Taber Drug. He continued this into his early married life. In 1952 he married Marlene Gilbertson also of Taber. He worked evenings for Doug Miller as a projectionist at the Tower Theatre and Sky View Drive-in. He served as a volunteer fireman and to date is an honorary member. Later in life Leo sold and serviced Electrolux. He spent hours gardening and will be missed by his coffee row buddies. He and Marlene would have celebrated their 50th anniversary in April this year.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family and pay their last respects at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, January 11, 2002 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M. and prior to the funeral service in the Relief Society Room of the Church from 9:30 A.M. to 10:40 A.M.
The Funeral Service was held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, January 12, 2002 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Richard Sugden officiating. Interment followed in the Taber Memorial Garden.
