GEORGE DOUGAN

1922 - 2003

With great love and sorrow in our hearts, we announce the passing of Robert George Dougan on October 7, 2003 our wonderful husband, father and grandfather.
He lives on in our hearts and memories and will be lovingly missed by Gladys his wife and best friend of fifty four years; his daughters Kim (Marvin) Marose, their daughter Coralee (Keith) Lubbers and son Chad; and Kelly (Brad) Peake and sons Kyle, Brett and Blake. He is also survived by one brother Fred and four sisters Lily Sweeney, Madge Dicker, Nessie McKinnon and Glenna Bolton, as well as brothers and sisters-in-law Jack and Luella Metheral, Ivan and Lois Strome, Robert and Marian Bye and numerous nieces and nephews.
George was born May 1, 1922 in Belfast, Ireland. He came with his family to Vermilion where they homesteaded. At the age of 19 he joined the RCAF and served in World War II from 1941 - 1945. Following the war, George went to Milk River where he met and married the love of his life Gladys Bye. After various Government trucking contracts they settled in Taber, where George worked with Superior Propane for 30 years, retiring in 1987. He was hard working, known for his dependability and cheerful disposition. He was a member of Knox United Church and the Royal Canadian Legion. George enjoyed hockey, especially when his grandsons played, square dancing, cards, scrabble, travelling in their motorhome and restoring old cars, but his real enjoyment came from spending time with his grandchildren. He was a true family man who will always be honored, remembered and loved.
Relatives and friends were invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, October 10, 2003 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, October 11, 2003 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Jim Lochhead officiating. Interment followed in the Taber Memorial Garden.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in George’s name may be made to the Knox United Church, 4929 - 50 Avenue, Taber, T1G 1H7 or to the Taber Hospital Foundation, 4326 - 50 Avenue, Taber T1G 1N9.
