JOHN GEREIN
1927 - 1999
John Melfort Gerein of Taber, beloved husband of the late Lydia Gerein, passed away in Calgary on Wednesday, February 10, 1999 at the age of 72 years.
John was born at Scott, Saskatchewan on February 4, 1927. He received his schooling in Saskatchewan and later moved to Calgary. John then moved to Taber where he began working with Bill Park Construction and later with the Town Of Taber. John married Lydia Weiss on September 4, 1965.
John leaves to cherish his memory his children Sharon Weiss, Sherry (Terry) Halverson, Randy (Melonie) Weiss all of Taber and Stan (Sophie) Weiss of Medicine Hat; thirteen grandchildren Miranda, Murray, Nicole, Tasha, Kevin, Kent, Kari and Kyle Weiss, Tracy (Howard) Brown, Brent Kunz, Donna (Kevin) Christensen, Dale Halverson and Dean (Mary) Weiss; six great grandchildren Danny Weiss, Stevie-Lee Brown, Madison Brown, Curtis Weiss, Kassidy Halverson and Braxton Weiss; sisters Mary Gloe of Wilkie, Saskatchewan and Anne Bertsch of Saskatoon, Saskatchewan; sisters-in-law Katie Gerein of Kindersley, Saskatchewan, Ella Akins of Medicine Hat, Esther (Alec) Guminy and Norma Genert all of Taber; brothers Andrew (Annie) Gerein of Delta, British Columbia, Theodore (Magdelina) Gerein of Scott, Saskatchewan and Vincent (Beth) Gerein of Red Deer; brother-in-law Leonard Weiss of Edmonton and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
Besides his wife Lydia who predeceased him in 1988, John was also predeceased by his parents Jacob and Annie Gerein; sisters Magdelina (Karl) Oelkuch, Rose (Bernard) Elder, Irene (Lyle) Cameron and Frances (John) Wagner; brothers Michael Gerein, Jacob (Bernadette) Gerein and Jim Gerein and brothers-in-law Hans Gloe and Mike Bertsch.
Relatives and friends met for Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, February 12, 1999 at 7:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, February 13, 1999 at 10:30 A.M. with Reverend Jim de los Angeles officiating. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
