FRANK MARTENS
1926 - 1998
Frank Martens, beloved husband of Edna Martens, passed away in Taber on Friday, October 9, 1998 at the age of 72 years.
Frank was born at Hague, Saskatchewan on February 25, 1926, the son of Corneliuse and Justina Martens. He received his schooling in Hague and later joined the RCAF where he served for three years working as an airplane mechanic. In 1955 he received his discharge and began working with Parker Motors and later at McDonald Chev Olds in Taber. At the age of sixty five he retired from the Taber School Division where he had been employed for thirteen years. Frank was a life member of the Royal Canadian Legion, served as a volunteer fireman for thirteen years and enjoyed curling, darts, cards and camping. The time spent with grandaughters Shelby, Janine and Erin and special nephews Victor and Jeremy was very special to Frank and will always be remembered.
Besides his dearest wife Edna, Frank will be forever missed by his five children and ten grandchildren, son Colin (Susan) Martens and their daughters Shelby and Janine of Tilley; daughter Valerie (Don) McHugh of Taber; daughter Denise (Emil) Brugos of Edmonton and their children Pam (Doug) Huber of Edmonton, Joanne (Jack) Beattie of Grande Prairie and Sheila (Frank) Nevis of Lethbridge; daughter Frances Seipert (Carl Comant) of Sherwood Park and her children Jackie (Jerome) Heisler, Darrell (Brenda) Siepert and Jody (Terry) Rose; and daughter Lorna (Mike) Warwick of Port Carling, Ontario and their children Sean (Erica) and Erin; four brothers Jim (Barbara) Martens of Lethbridge, Pete (Helen) Martens of Rosthern, Saskatchewan, George (Beth) Martens of Brooks and Henry (Ruth) Martens of Chilliwack, British Columbia; two sisters Jessie (Bill) Deets of Calgary and Helen (Gordon) Nicoll of Foremost; two sisters-in-law Marion (Mike) Sekura of Taber and Cynthia (Mel) McCulloch of Victoria, British Columbia and also by numerous great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
Frank was predeceased by his parents, brothers Abe, Neil and John and sisters Anne and Betty.
The Funeral Service was held at St. Theodore’s Anglican Church, 5120 - 44 Avenue, Taber on Tuesday, October 13, 1998 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Dale Lang officiating. Interment followed at the Taber Memorial Garden.
