DALE GILBERTSON
1929-2003
Dale Gilbertson, husband of Zelma (Anderson) Gilbertson of Taber, passed away at the Taber Hospital on Thursday, February 20, 2003 at the age of 73 years.
Dale was born in Taber on December 1, 1929, a son of Arthur and Esther (Peterson) Gilbertson and was raised in the Wadena district where he loved to play ball. After several years of working on the farm with his family, in 1953 he went to Technical School in Calgary. Upon graduation he commenced employment with Russell Schonert, as a mechanic, in the farm equipment business in Taber. It was there that he worked with Harry Charlton who several years later became his partner as they purchased the operation. They moved from their downtown location to the present site in the industrial park. When Harry’s health declined in 1972, the business known as Charlton & Gilbertson Farm Equipment Ltd. became a family owned company operated by the Gilbertson’s. Dale was a charter member of the Elks Club, a member of the Loyal Order of the Moose, and belonged to the Taber Senior’s Curling Club. He served on the Taber Rodeo Committee and was a director for the Farm Equipment Dealers Association.
Besides his wife Zelma, Dale is survived by his children Lori, Bruce (Lorna) and Byron along with three grandchildren Ryan, Megan and Nolan; sisters Winogene Luehr and Marlene McCartee both of Taber and his brothers, Glenn (Jeanette) of Lethbridge and Brent (Margaret) of Calgary are also mourning their loss.
