1919 - 2011

Ellen Kathaleen Leavitt (nee Cook), beloved wife of the late Kenneth Leavitt, passed away in Taber on Friday, October 7, 2011 at the age of 92 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the church prior to the funeral service on Friday, October 14, 2011 between 10:00 A.M. and 10:40 A.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Friday, October 14, 2011 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Wade Steed conducting. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Ellen is survived by her children Ken (Pat) Leavitt of Magrath, Larry (Maralyn) Leavitt of Calgary, Randy (Shauna) Leavitt of Lethbridge, and Cindy (Loren) Johnson of Barnwell. She is also survived by twenty one grandchildren, thirty three great grandchildren, two great great grandchildren; her brother Doug (Dorothy) Cook of Calgary and by numerous nieces and nephews.
Ellen was predeceased by her husband Ken, two grandsons Ryan Meldrum and James Peard, great grandson Bronson Peterson; her parents Annie (nee Martin) and Ernest Cook; two brothers Gordon Cook and Stanley Cook; two sisters Florence Anderson and Arlene Aspin.
Ellen was born in Lethbridge on May 1, 1919. She met her sweetheart Kenneth Leavitt in Glenwood and they were married in the Alberta Temple on September 18, 1941. Ellen and Ken farmed in Hartley and Glenwood before moving to Taber in 1968. They worked side by side throughout their marriage to make their home and surroundings beautiful. Ellen enjoyed many cherished friendships, but her favorite activity was supporting or watching her children and grandchildren in their music and sporting events. Family meant everything to her, she loved to gather them around her. She will be lovingly remembered and greatly missed.
