MARY GAETZ
1912 - 1998
Mary Gaetz of Seattle, Washington, passed away in Bow Island on Thursday, July 10, 1998 at the age of 85 years.
Mary was born on December 18, 1912 in Bow Island. She attended Country School in Bow Island and later graduated from St. Theresa's Academy in Medicine Hat. Following high school she moved to Winnipeg where she attended nursing school, graduating in 1935. Mary worked for St. Michael’s Hospital in Lethbridge before moving to the United States to continue her nursing, where she later enlisted with the US Army in the Medical Corp. For most of her nursing career she worked in Portland, Oregon, but also nursed in Seattle and eventually retired there.
Mary is survived by a brother Frank Gaetz of Bow Island; two sisters Emily Maxwell of Edmonton and Magdalene Gravelle of Bow Island; nephews and nieces Roger (Ilene) Maxwell and Gordon Maxwell of Edmonton, David (Cheryl) Gravelle of Bow Island, Jerry (Pat) Gravelle of Lethbridge, Dalene (Don) Gravelle of Duncan, British Columbia and Marcy (Byron) Johnson of Vancouver; seven great nieces and nephews and a devoted cousin Dorothy (Charlie) Cesmet and family of Seattle.
She was predeceased by her parents Dave & Magdalena Gaetz; two sisters Rose Gaetz and Edith Gaetz and a great nephew Ryan Gravelle.
Relatives and friends were invited to Prayers at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Bow Island on Sunday, July 12, 1998 at 7:30 P.M.
The Funeral Mass was celebrated at St. Michael’s Catholic Church, Bow Island on Monday, July 13, 1998 at 11:00 A.M. with Reverend Dominic Nguyen Celebrant. Interment followed at the Bow Island Cemetery.
