CLAUD SUTTON

1914 - 1998

Claud Hawley Sutton, beloved husband of Margaret Sutton of Taber, passed away at the Taber Hospital following a short illness on Monday, July 6, 1998 at the age of 84 years.
Claud was born at Retlaw, July 2, 1914 and was the son of Bert & Hattie Sutton. He received his schooling in Retlaw, moved to Scandia and in 1940 married Margaret Munro. They later moved to Medicine Hat and for a number of years he managed the store and Post Office at Grantham. In 1948 they moved to Vauxhall where they resided until moving to Taber in December of 1997, due to health reasons.
Claud operated Sutton Insurance Agency and drove school bus until retiring in 1979. For a number of years Claud served as Secretary Treasurer of the Vauxhall Stock Grazing Association. He enjoyed music and played the drums in numerous dance bands. Claud was a Charter and Life Member of the Vauxhall Lions Club, a member of the Masonic Lodge and Eastern Star and a longtime member of Parkview United Church and the Vauxhall Seniors.
Besides his loving wife Margaret he is survived by a daughter Bea (Egon) Engel of Eckville and their children Shannon (Blair) of Red Deer and David of Calgary; a son Del (Marnie) Sutton of Vauxhall and their children Karen (Mark) of Edmonton, Chris (Kim) of Calgary and Leah (Wade) of Vauxhall; two great grandchildren Nicki and Ryan; a sister Teresa Bowers of Cardston; sisters-in-law Dorothy Sutton of Calgary, Vera Bissett of Weyburn, Saskatchewan, Agnes (Al) Brooks of West Vancouver, Beatrice (Cam) Sylvester of Edmonton, Lorraine (Lloyd) Moore of Trossahs, Saskatchewan and also by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents; brother Vernon Sutton; brothers-in-law Dallas Bowers, Tom Sylvester and Melvin Bissett; mother-in-law Hilma Munro and father-in-law Charles S. Munro.
Relatives and friends were invited to a Prayer Service at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, July 9, 1998 at 7:30 P.M.
The Funeral Service was held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Friday, July 10, 1998 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Bruce Sheasby officiating. Interment followed at the Vauxhall Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Claude’s name may be made to the charity of one’s choice.
