Nona was born in Verteneglio, Italy on September 1, 1920 to Rosa (nee Pauluzi) & Francesco Persel. In her early twenties she met and married local farm boy, Matteo Millo on December 5, 1940. In March of 1957 together with their two children, they immigrated to Canada and settled in the Taber area. They began working on several area farms doing work which included hoeing beets, picking rocks, grading potatoes and picking vegetables for the local farmers. After four years of hard work and saving, they purchased a farm near Barnwell. One year later, they sold that farm and purchased another larger farm north of Taber.
Nona was a very determined and hard working woman. In addition to her daily duties on the farm she loved sewing by hand, knitting and cooking. Following her challenge with breast cancer in 1974, Nona battled through this, subsequently living cancer free for thirty seven years.
In January 1976 she moved off of the farm and into a house in Taber. She resided there on her own until 2007 when she moved into the Taber Extended Care. Nona thoroughly enjoyed being there surrounded by others. She especially enjoyed the exercise activities and loved all the music.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Caterina’s name may be made directly to the Taber & District Health Foundation, 4326 - 50 Avenue, Taber, Alberta T1G 1N9.
