SIGURD ORSTEN

1919 - 2011

Sigurd Cornelius Orsten of Vauxhall, beloved husband of the late Elsie Orsten, passed away in Lethbridge on Sunday, July 31, 2011 at the age of 92 years.
A private family burial service will be held prior to the funeral service at the Ibbestad Cemetery on Thursday, August 4, 2011.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Enchant Community Hall, Enchant on Thursday, August 4, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Jakob Pillibeit officiating.
Sigurd is survived by his children John (Myrna) Orsten of Lethbridge, Stuart (Donna) Orsten of Taber, Dennis (Lynn) Orsten of Enchant, Audrey (Jim) Cummings of Lomond; ten grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and six great great grandchildren. He is also survived by his sister Stella Popson of Lethbridge; sisters-in-law Henny Orsten of Victoria, Helen Orsten of Calgary, Joyce Orsten of Lethbridge and Audrey Orsten of Vauxhall; Elsie’s family in England and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his wife Elsie on August 1, 2009; five brothers Happy, Melvin, Stanley, Richard and Harold Orsten; sister Mildred Skretting; sister-in-law Isabel Orsten; two brothers-in-law Harold Skretting and Steve Popson.
Sigurd was born in Enchant on January 11, 1919 to Jens & Jennie (nee Hagen) Orsten. He joined the army in 1941 and went overseas in 1942 where he met Elsie Twiddle. They married in Beverley, England in 1944. After coming to Canada in 1946, Sigurd and Elsie settled in the Stone Lease area in 1948 and farmed there until 1996 when they retired and moved to Vauxhall.
