1927 - 2011

Bernard James Erickson, beloved husband of Jean Erickson of Vauxhall, passed away in Taber on Sunday, July 17, 2011 at the age of 84 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, July 20, 2011 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
A private burial service for family and close friends will be held at the Enchant Cemetery, Enchant on Thursday, July 21, 2011 with Pastor Dan Doerksen officiating.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Royal Canadian Legion, 217 - 5 Street North, Vauxhall on Thursday, July 21, 2011 between 12:00 P.M. and 2:00 P.M.
Besides his loving wife Jean, Bernie is survived by their children Trudie Thomas of Edmonton, Wendy Talbot of Lethbridge, Terry Erickson of Lethbridge, Paul Erickson of Vauxhall, Dean Erickson of Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, Lorna (Ben) Skuban of Vauxhall; grandchildren William & Wesley Thomas, Matthew & Melodee Talbot, Nicole (Nathan) Pauls, Taralynn Erickson, Jessie & Jami Skuban; great grandchildren Michaila Thomas, Joshua & Tyler Thomas, Autumn, Mylenn & Aurora Talbot and Kayden Pauls. He is also survived by his siblings Rae Erickson of Grande Prairie, Stanley (Marlene) Erickson of Grande Prairie, Eileen Swan of Stony Plain, Mildred Byquist of Winnipeg and by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by a sister-in-law Margaret Erickson and two brothers-in-law Frank Swan and Henry Byquist.
Bernie was born February 14, 1927 in Travers to Mable & Chris Erickson. He married Jean Thomson August 5, 1953. They lived in Calgary, the Torrington district and Wanham before settling in Vauxhall in 1969.
In October 2008, Bernie was moved to the Extendicare in Taber. In his earlier years, he was involved with the Vauxhall Lions club and enjoyed woodworking, camping, fishing and playing horse shoes.
