LILA JOHNSON

1928 - 2011

Lila Johnson (nee Hurnanen), beloved wife of the late Delbert Johnson of Barnwell, passed away peacefully in her home, surrounded by her children and many of her grandchildren on Wednesday, June 22, 2011 at the age of 82 years.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at Lila’s home, 1716 Heritage Road, Barnwell on Sunday, June 26, 2011 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:30 P.M. and also at the church prior to the funeral service on Monday, June 27, 2011 between 10:30 A.M. and 11:40 A.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Barnwell on Monday, June 27, 2011 at 12:00 P.M. with Bishop Tyler Johnson conducting. Burial to follow at the Barnwell Cemetery.
Lila is survived by eight children, Jay and Colleen Johnson of Brooks, Coral and Douglas Spenst of South Jordan, Utah, Corrine and Chip Koop of Provo, Utah, Layne and Jane Johnson of Barnwell, Candis and Chris Molcak of Prince George, British Columbia, Cara and Darcy Gross of Barnwell, Carla and James Davies of Fort Saskatchewan, and Ardis Johnson of Newcastle, England. She is also survived by thirty four grandchildren, fifteen great grandchildren and her siblings Jonas (Marie) Hurnanen of Lethbridge, Eileen Landa of Arad, Israel and Roy (Marlyn) Hurnanen of Cambridge, Ontario as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
She was predeceased in 2001 by her husband of fifty years, Delbert, son Lynn, and infant daughter Celeste.
Lila was raised on the family farm in the Black Spring Ridge area near Carmangay. She received a teaching certificate from the University of Alberta and moved to Barnwell for her first and only teaching position where she met and married Delbert Johnson. Together they raised their family after their marriage in 1950. Lila was an active and faithful member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. She devoted her life to serving others and was grateful for the opportunity to do so.
