Albert Joseph Vanneste, beloved husband of the late Paula Vanneste, passed away in Taber on Sunday, January 30, 2011 at the age of 94 years.
Relatives and friends are invited for Prayers at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, February 2, 2011 at 6:00 P.M.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated at St. Augustine’s Catholic Church, 5009 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, February 3, 2011 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Patrick Furtado SAC, Celebrant. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
Albert is survived by his daughter Erica Raca; grandson John (Rhonda) Raca and her children Naomi & Joel; granddaughter Rita Goodrich; great grandsons Derrick and Nicholas Goodrich all of Taber; niece Lucienne Holvoet of Belgium as well as the Lafaut family.
He was predeceased by his wife Paula; infant son Eric; son-in-law Joe Raca; grandson-in-law Wayne Goodrich; one sister and one brother.
Albert was born in Belgium on March 12, 1916. He married Paula Lafaut and together with their daughter, they immigrated to Canada in 1957. Upon arrival in Canada he worked as a farm labourer. He then had the opportunity to work on a gold dredge in Dawson City, Yukon. After returning to southern Alberta, he joined the construction industry, working for Cunningham & Shannon. He concluded his working years at the City of Calgary. Albert was an avid Flames fan. He was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion where he enjoyed spending time with friends.
