SHINYUKI KUNIMOTO

1908 - 2010

Shinyuki Kunimoto, beloved husband of Hisaye Kunimoto, passed away at home in Taber on Saturday, May 15, 2010 at the age of 101 years.
Besides his loving wife Hisaye, Shinyuki is survived by his son Bruce (Terry) Kunimoto of Taber and their four children, Dawn (Ryan) Farries of Alliston, Ontario and family Nathaniel & Wyatt, Leisa (Tom) Carney of St. Paul and family Tianna, Marieka & Elias, Tamara Kunimoto of Bonnyville and Erin Kunimoto of St. Catharines, Ontario; daughter Eileen Kunimoto of Taber; son Ross (Sandré) Kunimoto and their two children Shane Kunimoto and Amber Kunimoto all of Calgary; son Bob Kunimoto of Ottawa and his two children Kimberley Kunimoto of Montreal and Kaitlin Kunimoto of Ottawa; son Dennis (Sheri Samuels) Kunimoto and their two children Brenden Kunimoto and Danika Kunimoto all of Edmonton; daughter Jodene Kunimoto of Calgary. He is also survived by siblings Shinharu Kunimoto and Sadame Nakano both of Japan as well as by numerous nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by two brothers, Haruo Kunimoto of Japan and Shinkatsu Kunimoto of Vancouver and their wives; sister Tomie Eto and her husband; his father Shinpei Kunimoto and mother Seki Kunimoto; cousin Charlie and his wife Kay Kunimoto.
Shinyuki was born in Aza Mori Jinrai Mura Kikuchi gun Kumamoto Ken Japan on May 24, 1908, the eldest of seven children. He attended elementary and high school in Japan and graduated from Agricultural college. After immigrating to Canada and settling in British Columbia, the war broke out and he was interned. Shinyuki eventually arrived in Picture Butte where he experienced an arranged marriage to his future wife Hisaye Shigemi in 1946. Shortly after, they moved to Broxburn where Bruce and Eileen were born. They later moved to Taber where Ross, Bob, Dennis and Jodene were born.
After moving to Taber he worked with the oil companies, highways and various construction companies as a carpenter. He was very proud that he was a part of building D A Ferguson school and his family’s home.
Shinyuki was a simple yet gentle man - one of integrity. His passions in life were reading, fishing, gardening and walking. He also enjoyed sharing his life experiences with his children and grandchildren.
We will miss your quiet ways Shinyuki but you will live on in our hearts.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, May 21, 2010 from 7:00 P.M. to 8:00 P.M.
A private family service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel on Saturday, May 22, 2010 with Reverend Yasuo Izumi officiating. Burial will follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
