DICK FAIRBANKS
1938 - 2010
It is with deep sadness that we announce the passing of our dad Richard (Dick) Allen Fairbanks at the age of 71. On January 7, 2010 Dick returned home to his Heavenly Father and was reunited with his eternal sweetheart of 51 years, Gerry.
Dick was born April 29, 1938 the youngest of seven children to Miles and Delma Fairbanks. He grew up in Barnwell, Alberta. He met Gerry at the lunch counter at Kresges and it was love at first sight. They married August 31, 1957 and had four daughters that they raised in Lethbridge: Tami (Morgan) Woodruff of Lethbridge, Shawna (Rob) Tymchyna of Lethbridge, Dixie (Rick) Anderson of Barnwell and Mona (Darren) Peterson of Stirling. Dick is also survived by twenty two grandchildren and twenty-one great grandchildren. His family was his greatest joy. He loved the Savior and the gospel of Jesus Christ. He had great faith which brought him through many trials.
At the age of eight Dick suffered from Rheumatic Fever which affected his health for the rest of his life. He had his first of many strokes at the age of 26. His life was a great example to his family and friends. His positive attitude, great sense of humour and dedication to his family and the gospel were an inspiration to us all.
Family and friends are invited to meet with the family in the Relief Society room of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints, Barnwell from 11:30 A.M. to 12:40 P.M. on Monday, January 11, 2010. The Funeral Service will follow at 1:00 P.M. with Bishop Mark Baldry officiating. Burial to follow in the Barnwell Cemetery.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Dick’s name may be made directly to the General Missionary Fund for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints.
As a family we are very grateful to the staff at the Clearview Lodge in Taber. You took great care of our dad since the passing of our Mom. You went the extra mile for him and we are eternally grateful to you. Dad loved the girls that took care of him at the Lodge and he will miss them. Thank you.
And to our Dad, thank you for being the great husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather and friend you were. Your example will always be with us and for that we thank you. Say hi to Mom!
Till we meet again.
