BERNARD PRICE

1927 - 2009

Bernard Edwin Price of Taber passed away peacefully on Tuesday December 15, 2009 at the age of 82 years.
Bernard was born in Taber on September 16, 1927. He also lived in Raymond, Picture Butte and Calgary.
He served a mission for The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in the Eastern Canada Mission between 1949 and 1951. His service there was a precursor to church service throughout his life. He served where he was asked and gave freely of his time in the service of others.
He met the love of his life Dorothy “Kay” Haynes while in high school in Taber. After he returned from his mission they were married on January 16, 1952. They were rarely apart until she passed away in January, 2000.
Bernard’s work life was varied. He worked for the Sugar Company where he operated heavy equipment. He moved to Calgary where he worked as a Realtor with H.S. Kent and Associates. He returned to Taber in 1960 when he decided he needed to be closer to family and with his brother Darwin Price purchased Chief Service, a Texaco and later a Chrysler Dealership. In 1973 he returned to brokering real estate, first with Harold Evanson and then on his own as owner of Price Agencies.
Bernard liked to travel near and far and while the place names changed the common theme in his travels were relationships. He loved people. At Potluckers, it wasn’t about the food or the Rook game, it was about lifelong friends. At Parkside Manor, it wasn’t the pool or the cards, it was the people he played with. In his travels, it wasn’t the mountains, the lake, or the ruins, but the people he was with. He treasured his family and his lifelong friends but there was always room for new friendships.
Bernard was predeceased by his wife, Kay, his parents, Eddie and Hazel, his sister, Jolayne and her husband Arlidge Hill, his brother Darwin and his wife Nadine.
He leaves behind his children Marilyn Price-Larson (Dean) of Salt Lake City, Utah, Wendy Haslam (Jerry) of Taber, Robert Price (Loni) of Calgary, Shelley Price Draper (Andrew) of Kelowna and Gerald Price (Heather) of Fernie; seventeen grandchildren, four great grandchildren, and several nieces and nephews.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Friday, December 18, 2009 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M. and also at the church prior to the funeral service on Saturday, December 19, 2009 between 10:00 A.M. to 10:40 A.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, Taber Stake Centre, 4709 - 50 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, December 19, 2009 at 11:00 A.M. with Bishop Ken Holst conducting. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Bernard’s name may be made directly to the Lethbridge Regional Hospital, Hemodialysis Unit, 960 - 19 Street South, Lethbridge, Alberta T1J 1W5.
