GLEN STUBBERT
1919 - 2005
Mr. Glen (Stubby) Robert Stubbert, beloved husband of the late Mrs. Josephine (Phennie) Stubbert, of Lethbridge, passed away at St. Michael's Health Centre on Sunday, November 27, 2005 at the age of 86 years.
Glen was born in Taber on March 1, 1919. Glen attended school in Taber where there was never a dull moment. Stubby and his brothers always kept the teachers on their toes. Being a regular guest of after school detentions enabled Glen, to among other things, hone his poetry recital skills. Never a "shrinking violet", Glen and his brothers were always able to create some type of mischief growing up. Love of sports, especially hockey, boxing and baseball, kept Glen very busy as a young man. As a baseball coach for many years, Glen had a special affinity for "troubled boys" helping them in whatever way he could. On January 23, 1941 in Taber, Glen married Josephine (Phennie) Ziebart, his beloved wife of 61 years until her passing in 2002. As a plumber and gas fitter, Glen and his family lived in various locations in B.C. and Alberta until settling in Lethbridge in 1968. After working in maintenance for the Lethbridge School Board, Glen and his son Ronald owned and successfully operated a hair dressing school and salon for many years. Glen was a member of the Royal Canadian Legion. In his late years Glen became a passionate golf enthusiast. Always a "lover of people", Glen was armed with a joke, a smile, and a glint in his eye. As an active member of the Nord-Bridge Seniors Centre, Glen particularly enjoyed the camaraderie of his friends. Always a "family man", Glen was the Pied Piper to all children, nieces, nephews, grand and great grandchildren. Young people automatically gravitated to "Stubby". He will be lovingly remembered and sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.
Glen will forever be remembered by his daughters; Anita (Tom) DeZeng and their daughter Michelle Morneau, her children Tyler and Cassidy, their father Don Swager, son Michael Bowker, his daughter Hailey and her mother Mary Fredricks; Glen's daughter Valerie Stubbert (Henry Sullivan), her children Natalie (Lonny) Halverson, their children Amanda and James; Valerie's son Brett (Teresa) Stimson and their daughter Cayla Jo; Henry's sons, Stephen, Matthew and Michael.
Besides his loving wife Josephine, Glen was predeceased by his daughter Josephine (in infancy), son Ronald; siblings, Raymond, Evelyn and Sammy (all in infancy), Bill (William Arthur), Flo (Florence), Sid (Sidney), Roddy (Kenneth Rudolph), Rusty (Harold), Olive, Irene and Bernard.
Glen will always be remembered for his quick wit, wonderful sense of humour, tender heart and gentle spirit.
