WALTER STONE
1920 - 2006
Mr. Walter (Wally) Kenneth Stone of Taber, passed away in Lethbridge on Sunday, January 29, 2006 at the age of 85 years.
Walter was born on April 7, 1920 in Minedosa, Manitoba and moved with his family to London, England at the age of three. As a young man he joined the RAF during WWII. He met Jean Ledgerwood of Taber during the War in England. They were married in 1946 and moved back to Canada in the spring of 1947, residing in Taber ever since. Walter was a carpenter by trade and one of the many projects he worked on was the original Taber Sugar Factory. Walter will always be remembered for playing his accordion, entertaining people was a great enjoyment for him. He could always be found at the Royal Canadian Legion playing a tune or two. Walter was awarded a Life Membership to the Legion and spent many enjoyable hours commiserating with the Veterans. Remembrance day was always a special time for him. Other enjoyments he had were golfing, camping and fishing.
Walter was predeceased over the years by his parents, a sister and brother all of England and his wife Jean in 1992.
He is survived by his three children Trudy (Fred) Zimmer, Linda (Tom) Cropper and Craig (Connie) Stone; seven grandchildren Kelly (Jason) Bragg, Les Zimmer, Shana (Nathan) Bruder, Brooke Cropper (Michael Ilk), Ryan Stone, Larissa Stone, Andrea Stone and two great grandchildren Jessica Bandura and Annika Bruder. Walter is also survived by his very special companion Florence Smith of Taber and her family.
The Funeral Service will be held at St. Theodore's Anglican Church,5209-44th Ave., Taber on Wednesday, February 1, 2006 at 11:00 A.M. with The Reverend Wil Stonehill and Reverend Gary Noble officiating. A Private Family Interment will follow in the Field Of Honor, Taber Memorial Garden.
