1914 - 2007

Wayne “Bud” Benjamin Schmidt, beloved husband of Lois Schmidt of Taber, passed away on Monday, January 8, 2007 at the age of 92 years.
Bud was born August 11, 1914 at the family farm in the Wadena district to Ben and Hazel Schmidt. He attended school at the Wadena School which was located right next door and finished schooling in Taber. After a heart attack at 19, he spent ten summers in the mountains at Waterton Park working as a pack-horse guide for the Prince of Wales Hotel, and reminisced about this often. On June 16, 1942, he married Lois Jespersen, who grew up just down the road from him, and they spent the next forty eight years together farming, shooting and fishing. They moved into the Town of Taber in 1990 and he spent the next few years commuting to the farm every day.
Bud was a founding member of the Taber Pistol and Rifle Club and spent many years coaching young shooters from Taber and surrounding areas. If anyone ever wanted to find Bud, all they would have to do is go to the dam at Chin Coulee where he would be fishing for the biggest pike or the best walleye in the lake.
Bud is survived by his devoted wife of sixty three years, Lois Schmidt of Taber, his daughter Eleanor (Gordon) Munkholm of Cochrane and their children Clinton (Jenny), Andrea, Susan and Tanya and great grandchildren Seamus and Cailean Munkholm; his daughter Kathryn Petrunia of Calgary and her three sons Marc, Trent and Eric.  He is also survived by his self-adopted family, Charlie and Helen Arndt and their children.
Bud was predeceased by his son-in-law Tom Petrunia in 1992, his son Ben in 1993 and his sister Elaine Bland in 2005.
The Funeral Service will be held at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Saturday, January 13, 2007 at 2:00 P.M. with Reverend Kevin Arndt leading the service and his grandson Marc Petrunia leading the music.
