BOB SKELLY

1928 - 2008

Robert Skelly, beloved husband of Betty Skelly of Vauxhall, passed away with his family by his side, in Taber on Monday, January 14, 2008 at the age of 79 years.
Bob is survived by Betty, his loving wife of 56 years; his children Arlene (Roger) Miles of Taber; Barbara (Randy) Burrows of Enchant; Bob (Linda) Skelly of Calgary; David (Fely) Skelly of Calgary; Bill (Marita) Skelly of Taber; eight grandchildren Lindsay (Dustin) Sararas, Ashley (Kevin) Hill, Bryan Burrows, Megan Skelly, Kyle Skelly, Lindon Skelly, Chelsea Skelly, Brynn Skelly. He is also survived by four nephews and one niece.
He was predeceased by his parents John & Adeline Skelly, sister Frances Wylie, brother Jack Skelly and brother-in-law Bill Wylie.
Bob was born in Belfast, Northern Ireland on November 21, 1928. He married Betty in 1951. In 1953, Bob, Betty and their baby Arlene left Northern Ireland and moved to Canada settling in Kenora, Ontario where Bob worked as a manager for Safeway Foods and Shop Easy. In the following years, Bob and his family moved west to Winnipeg, then Regina and finally to Vauxhall in 1970 where Bob worked as a purchasing agent for Pak-Wel Produce Ltd. and Vauxhall Foods Ltd. until his retirement in 1984.
Bob enjoyed sports, particularly hockey and from 1972 - 1973 served as the president of the Vauxhall Minor Hockey Association, putting in tireless hours. He also enjoyed fishing, gardening, playing cards and sharing his keen sense of humour with family and friends. Bob also had a soft spot for animals all of whom returned the affection and could usually be found near Bob.
The Memorial Service will be held at the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, 320 - 9 Street North, Vauxhall on Monday, January 21, 2008 at 2:00 P.M. with Pastor Elroy Senneker officiating.
If friends so desire in lieu of flowers, memorial tributes in Bob’s name may be made directly to the Mennonite Brethren Mission Fund, in care of the Vauxhall Mennonite Brethren Church, Box 75, Vauxhall, Alberta  T0K 2K0.
The family wishes to acknowledge the staff at the Taber Extended Care Facility for the kindness and care they provided to Bob.
