BARB SHOCKEY
1929 - 2009
Barbara Hilda Shockey of Taber, beloved wife of the late Lemuel “Lum” Shockey, passed away in Taber on Friday, January 23, 2009 at the age of 79 years.
She is survived by her daughters Myrna (Merle) Brown of Calgary, Dianne (Larry) Watrich of One Hundred Mile House, British Columbia and Trudy (Tim) Miller of Taber; seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren. Barb is also survived by her brothers Phillip Gross of Grassy Lake, George (Jean) Gross of Lethbridge, Peter (Donna) Gross of Calgary, Frank Gross of Lethbridge and Lawrence Gross of Taber; sisters Lucille (Mike) Hrycuick of Bow Island and Agnes Peterson of Calgary.
She was predeceased by her husband Lum; parents Joseph P. Gross and Elizabeth Gross of Grassy Lake; brothers-in-law Roy Shockey of Edmonton, John Peterson of Calgary and Harold Collett of Taber; sisters-in-law Dorothy Gross of Grassy Lake and Joan Gross of Lethbridge; niece Michelle Shockey of Vancouver and nephew Todd Evans of Edmonton.
Barb was born in Grassy Lake on August 22, 1929. She married Lemuel Shockey in Taber on November 30, 1946. They lived in Jasper and Calgary eventually settling in Taber in 1958. Barb was active in the community with the United Church Ladies Auxiliary. She enjoyed many sports including golf, curling, baseball and bowling. Barb will be missed by her family and many friends.
Relatives and friends are invited to meet with the family at the Southland Funeral Chapel, 5006 - 48 Avenue, Taber on Wednesday, January 28, 2009 between 7:00 P.M. and 8:00 P.M.
The Funeral Service will be held at Knox United Church, 4929 -50 Avenue, Taber on Thursday, January 29, 2009 at 2:30 P.M. with Reverend Frank Lewis officiating. Burial to follow at the Taber Memorial Garden.
If friends so desire, memorial tributes in Barb’s name may be made directly to a charity of one’s personal choosing.
